UM JORNAL NA FRONTEIRA: BREVES CONSIDERAÇÕES SOBRE A PRODUÇÃO DE MASCULINIDADES NO SEMANÁRIO ESTUDANTIL “O BONDE”

Abstract

A Escola Superior de Agricultura e Veterinária (ESAV) foi inaugurada em 1926 e, em 1969, federalizada como Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV). Entre 1920 a 1940, a instituição se tornou um local de estudo hegemonicamente masculino, nutrido em um ethos institucional de disciplina, responsabilidade e racionalidade científica, denominado de “espírito esaviano”. Este “espírito” visava um corpo discente responsável e capacitado nas ciências agrárias. Um dos veículos de divulgação do “espírito esaviano” foi o jornal estudantil “O Bonde”, que de 1945 e 1963, deu voz aos estudantes daquele campus estudantil. Dedicando-nos, pois, ao procedimento de analisar artigos publicados naqueles jornal, observamos que “O Bonde” funcionava como recurso de policiamento de atitudes que destoassem daquelas defendidas pelo “espírito esaviano”. E pela denúncia de movimentos estranhos entre estudantes, “O Bonde” se transformava em campo de fronteira de diferentes regimes de subjetivação, principalmente no que se refere à produção de masculinidades entre os discentes.

A NEWSPAPER ON THE FRONTIER: BRIEF CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF MASCULINITIES IN THE STUDENT WEEKLY “O BONDE”

The Higher School of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (ESAV) was opened in 1926 and, in 1969, federalized as the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). Between 1920 and 1940, the institution became a place of study hegemonically male, nourished in an institutional ethos of discipline, responsibility and scientific rationality, called "Esavian spirit". This “spirit” aimed at a responsible and trained student body in the agrarian sciences. One of the vehicles for spreading the “Esavian spirit” was the student newspaper “O Bonde”, which from 1945 and 1963 gave a voice to the students of that student campus. Dedicating ourselves, therefore, to the procedure of analyzing articles published in those newspapers, we observed that “O Bonde” functioned as a resource for policing attitudes that differed from those defended by the “Esavian spirit”. And because of the denunciation of strange movements among students, “O Bonde” was transformed into a frontier field of different regimes of subjectivation, mainly with regard to the production of masculinities among students.
