Parenting styles and generational succession: perspectives of potential successors in rural environments
Resumo
Generational succession is a crucial process on family farms, involving the transfer of managerial and operational control and physical and intangible. This study aimed to analyze potential successors' perceptions of parental styles. The results included 252 Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil respondents who answered a questionnaire regarding parental behaviour regarding Responsiveness and demandingness. The combination of scores obtained in these dimensions was used to determine parental styles (Pacheco et al., 1999). It was found that most respondents perceive their parents as authoritative (40.08%) and indulgent (36.90%), in which high levels of Responsiveness predominate and are related to higher levels of autonomy and self-confidence in their children. From the results, it is clear that parental styles can influence children's aspirations and expectations, impacting generational succession decisions and processes.
