Este artigo refere-se à análise de informações contidas em uma coletânea de documentos de natureza pessoal doados ao Museu do Estado do Pará, por Washington Araújo Pastana, filho do artista Manoel Pastana. Trata-se de um Álbum, fonte importante de informação, construído pelo próprio artista, contendo assinaturas de presença em exposições, recortes de jornais, convites e fotografias, coletadas em um período de mais de 20 anos, iniciando com recortes datados de 1921 até 1944, perfazendo assim, um período significativo da trajetória do artista. O estudo do objeto enquanto documento histórico e museológico foi fundamental para conhecer o contexto em que o artista viveu, assim como as redes e interlocuções estabelecidas no campo sociocultural da cidade de Belém e do Rio de Janeiro. A metodologia de pesquisa foi estruturada no registro e análise do documento, com transcrições de entrevistas realizadas com o artista, assim como, das notícias e críticas jornalísticas sobre exposições, seu processo artístico para a criação de uma arte de cunho nacional.

Abstract

This article refers to the analysis of information stated in a collection of personal matters documents donated to the Pará State Museum, by Washington Araújo Pastana, son of the artist Manoel Pastana. It is an album, an important source of information, developed by the artist himself, containing signatures for exhibitions, newspaper clippings, invitations and photographs, collected over a period of more than 20 years, starting with clippings dating from 1921 to 1944, thus making up a significant period of the artist's trajectory. The study of the object as a historical and museological document was fundamental to know the context which the artist lived in, as well as the networks and interlocutions established in the socio-cultural field from the cities of Belém and Rio de Janeiro. The research methodology was structured in the registration and analysis of the document, with transcripts from interviews carried out with the artist, as well as news and journalistic criticisms about exhibitions, his artistic process for the creation of a national art.
