GUERRA-PEIXE E O LONG-PLAY ‘O CANTO DA AMAZÔNIA’ (1969): TRANSCRIÇÕES E PEÇAS ORIGINAIS

Resumo

Este estudo apresenta uma análise descritiva de O Canto da Amazônia, long-play gravado pela soprano Maria Lúcia Godoy no ano de 1969. A análise se detém principalmente em aspectos historiográficos, sendo o disco apresentado em seu contexto de produção e recepção. Constata-se que o objetivo de homenagear a Amazônia e a cidade de Manaus está explícito na seleção de compositores e na variedade do repertório, apresentado de maneira a inserir-se no panorama da música nacional. Ao final, identifica-se um paralelo entre três composições camerísticas de César Guerra-Peixe, especialmente idealizadas para atender às demandas do projeto, e a escrita violonística do compositor em obras imediatamente posteriores.

GUERRA-PEIXE AND THE LONG-PLAY ‘THE SONGS OF THE AMAZON’ (1969): TRANSCRIPTIONS AND ORIGINAL WORKS

Abstract

This study presents a descriptive analysis of O Canto da Amazônia (‘The Songs of the Amazon’), a long play recorded by soprano Maria Lúcia Godoy in 1969. The analysis focuses mainly on historiographical aspects, with the album presented in its production and reception context. It appears that the objective of paying homage to the Amazon and the city of Manaus is explicit in the selection of composers and the variety of the repertoire, which is presented in a way that fits into the panorama of Brazilian national music. In the end, a parallel is identified between three chamber compositions by César Guerra-Peixe specially designed to meet the demands of the project and the composer's acoustic guitar writing in immediately subsequent works.
