And so it's been four years. Today, we deliver to our readers the eighth issue of Amazonica, which features articles and other contributions on subjects such as fishing, traditional people and gender. In Ethnoecology of fishing in Extractive Reserve Riozinho do Anfrísio, Terra do Meio, Flavio Bezerra Barros presents that land of conflicts and newspaper headlines from the perspective of riverine peoples and their knowledge on ecosystems and fish diversity, which integrates their biocultural heritage. Matias Godio presents The ranch and the boat, checking out the micropolitics of technology and sustainabilities among fishermen on the island of Santa Catarina. In addition, Viviane Kraieski de Assunção, Maria do Rosário de Fátima Andrade Leitão and Pedro Henrique Dias Inácio draw clever considerations about Eating more and better in Pernambuco, referring to the impacts of the Bolsa Família program on the diet of artisanal fishers families. The subject of fishing closes with the beautiful photo essay by Juliana Leitão on artisanal fishing in the Amazon, Belém do Pará.

Gerson Albuquerque brings the readers a lively discussion on Culture and nature, orality and literacy in the forest and cities of the Juruá valley, Acre, revealing the richness of the forest peoples’ voices. Homosexuality as an identity, has the family as passport and vulnerability as an issue for the well woven discussion by Anna Cruz Silva. Continuing on the field of family and identity, Maria Patrícia Correa Ferreira, in Family violence and justice system, focuses on parricide committed by women, questioning gender stereotypes that influence defense arguments and court decisions.

The authors of the photographic essays are growing. Through the lens of André dos Santos, we learn about the Igarapé do Preto, the birthplace of Samba do Cacete, important festive event that speaks about group identity, relieving the hardships of the dancers’ daily life.

Andreza Socorro Pantoja de Oliveira Smith summarized her master thesis, which brings concerns about the human rights of women violated by human trafficking and sexual exploitation in the Suriname-Brazil route, having the city of Belem as the bridge of illegal actions. In view of communicating recent works of interest to the Amazon, the book reviews of In the networks of sex: the backstage of Brazilian porn, by Maria Elvira Diaz-Benítez, analyzed by Rafael da Silva Noleto, and The metrosexual in Brazil, by Wilton Garcia, examined by Edyr Batista Oliveira Júnior, present issues that deserve consideration due to the lack of specific literature on these subjects.
