TRAJECTORIES OF IDENTITY: AN EXAMINATION OF MEMORIES AND REFLECTIONS IN JOÃO NERY AND “UMA MULHER DIFERENTE” BY CASSANDRA RIOS

Abstract

This article's central objective is to analyze the trajectories of identities present in the works "Uma mulher diferente" (2005), whose reissue occurred after its original publication in 1965, and in the autobiography entitled "Viagem solitária: memórias de um transexual 30 anos depois " (2011). Initially, a rescue of LGBTQIAP+ memory in Latin America will be carried out, discussing both what was recorded by official memory and the confrontation of underground memory against the pathologizing and negative discourse associated with the gay image, especially in the Brazilian context. The following theorists will be used: to approach memory, the perspectives of Pollak (1989) and Adorno (1995) will be used; to understand the transvestite body construct, the contributions of Kulick (2008) will be used; to examine the transmasculine body, the analyzes by Eduardo Maranhão (2014) and Preçado (2007) will be considered; and to contextualize gay bodies during the military dictatorship, reference will be made to the work of Quinalha (2021). As a result of the analysis, the path of construction of these bodies in a cisheteronormative society was identified, especially in the midst of a civil-military dictatorship, highlighting the techniques necessary to achieve passability, the challenges of facing family rejection, prejudice, stigmatization as abnormal people and the removal of the CID classification that classified them as sick.
