When we think about Latin America we come across innumerable transformations, many of them imposed by the emergence and development of authoritarian regimes, responsible for political persecution in different areas, but also by the development of many forms of struggle and resistance against these arbitrariness of authoritarianism and the violence responsible for the assault on democracies in Latin America. The year 2024 is a milestone in the struggles against the denial of the memory of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985), but we also take it as a point of reflection to think about other dictatorships in Latin America such as those promoted in Argentina. (1966-1973; and 1976-1983), Chile (1973-1990), Uruguay (1973-1985), Paraguay (1954-1989), Peru (1968-1980), Bolivia (1964-1982), Ecuador (1972- 1979), Dominican Rep. (1966-1978), Guatemala (1954-1993), Honduras (1963-1971), El Salvador (1931-1979). The political and economic instability fostered by the Cold War (Capitalists x Socialists) will produce polarized conflicts in Cuba (1959); in Colombia (1964), in Nicaragua (1979), in Venezuela (1958). Currently, we have had other representations of state authoritarianism and dictatorial governments in Latin America, in a game of narratives, which elevated the extreme right to power, in several of these countries, evoking the memory of civil-military dictatorships in Latin America and in several other countries around the world. As well as the left-wing authoritarian regimes observed in Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela. Therefore, this dossier invites researchers from all areas of knowledge to present texts that reflect on the different forms of assault on democracy in Latin America, highlighting different forms of Latin American struggles and resistance.
